Chip was born September 23, 1934 in High Point, North Carolina.
He graduated from High Point High School and attended Wake Forest University.
He served in the United States Army Reserves.
In March 1957, he married Mary Watt Wood and they had two children.
He served as president of George T. Wood and Son and was active in the business community all his life.
He served as president of the Salvation Army Boys Club, president of the Executive Club of High Point, and member of the board of directors for High Point Chamber of Commerce.
He was a member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.
He joined the Rotary Club of High Point in 1963 and served as president in 1972-73. He was active in the founding of the Rotary Club of Furnitureland in 1971.
He also served on the Rotary International Legislative Committee and was chosen as ambassador of goodwill through the Rotary International GSE program. He served as GSE Team Leader to Australia.
In 1979, he received The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service and in 1991 he received The Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award.
A special scholarship fund was created at his death to support the Rotary Youth Exchange Program in district 7690.
Chip died after declining health on July 19, 1991 at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
